Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Multiply cups per day by price per cup to get your daily coffee cost, then scale it by days per week and 52 weeks for the yearly total (monthly is that divided by 12). Even a $4.50 cup taken daily runs well over a thousand dollars a year and compounds into a five-figure decade.

Formula
daily = cups/day × price/cup; weekly = daily × days/week; yearly = weekly × 52; monthly = yearly ÷ 12
How this is calculated

Enter how many cups you drink per day, the price you pay per cup, and how many days per week you actually buy coffee (default 7 for an everyday habit). Your daily cost is simply cups per day multiplied by price per cup.

Weekly cost multiplies the daily figure by your days per week, so skipping weekends or home-brew days lowers the total. The yearly cost is the weekly cost times 52 weeks, and the monthly cost is the yearly figure divided evenly across 12 months — this averages out short and long months rather than using a fixed 30-day estimate.

The area chart shows cumulative spend building up over ten years, which illustrates the "latte factor": a few dollars a day compounds into a surprisingly large lifetime number. The math is currency-agnostic, so the price you enter is reported back in the same units. Days per week is capped at 7 and must be positive.

Frequently asked questions

Dividing the annual total by 12 gives a true average month, avoiding the bias of assuming every month has exactly 30 or 31 days.

It scales your weekly, monthly and yearly totals. Set it to 5 if you only buy coffee on workdays, or leave it at 7 for a daily habit.

Whatever you enter. The calculator just multiplies numbers, so the results come back in the same currency as your price per cup.
