Como esta calculadora funciona?

CAGR = (Ending Value ÷ Beginning Value)^(1/n) − 1. It describes the smoothed annual growth rate over n years, as if the value grew at the same rate every year. Useful for comparing investments, revenue or any metric across different time periods, because it correctly accounts for compounding.

Fórmula
CAGR = (Ending Value ÷ Beginning Value)^(1 ÷ Years) − 1
How this is calculated

CAGR is the hypothetical constant annual rate at which an investment or metric would have grown from its starting value to its ending value, if it had grown at exactly the same rate every year. The formula takes the ending-to-starting ratio, raises it to the power 1/n (the nth root, where n is the number of years), and subtracts one: CAGR = (End / Start)^(1/n) − 1. This is the geometric mean of the annual growth factors, and it correctly accounts for compounding — unlike a simple arithmetic average of annual returns, which overstates growth for volatile series.

The result is expressed as a percentage. A CAGR of 12.5% means the value grew at an equivalent rate of 12.5% per year, even if individual years ranged from −10% to +35%. The chart shows a smooth exponential curve at that rate, which is what the investment would have looked like if it had grown uniformly. Fractional years are supported: entering 2.5 years correctly applies the 1/2.5 exponent.

Key limitations: CAGR only sees the start and end points and ignores everything between them, so two investments with wildly different volatility can share the same CAGR. It assumes all returns are reinvested and does not account for taxes, fees, inflation, or additional contributions and withdrawals. For investments with irregular cash flows, IRR (internal rate of return) is the correct metric.

Perguntas frequentes

CAGR tells you the equivalent steady annual growth rate over the period. It lets you compare investments or business metrics of different durations on an apples-to-apples basis, because it converts any total return into a per-year figure.

Average annual return sums each year's percentage change and divides by the number of years (arithmetic mean). CAGR uses the geometric mean, which correctly accounts for compounding. For volatile series, CAGR is always lower than or equal to the arithmetic average — the gap grows with volatility.

Yes. If the ending value is below the beginning value, CAGR is negative, indicating a compound annual decline. For example, starting at 10,000 and ending at 7,000 over 3 years gives a CAGR of approximately −11.1% per year.
