Як працює цей калькулятор?
An IRA grows as Balance × (1+r) + annual contribution each year. With a 7% return, $7,000/year, and a 35-year window, a starting balance of $5,000 can grow to roughly $1.1 million before tax. Traditional IRAs are taxed on withdrawal; Roth withdrawals are tax-free. 2025 limits: $7,000/year ($8,000 age 50+) — editable.

How this is calculated
An Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is a US tax-advantaged investment account. The calculator grows your current balance year-by-year using compound interest: each year the balance earns the annual return, then the annual contribution is added. The standard compound annuity formula, B × (1+r)^n + C × [(1+r)^n − 1] / r, is equivalent.
The 2025 IRA contribution limit is $7,000 per year ($8,000 if you are age 50 or older) — these figures are set by the IRS and may increase with inflation; the limit fields are editable. Traditional IRA contributions reduce your taxable income today (if you qualify), but withdrawals in retirement are taxed as ordinary income. Roth IRA contributions are made with after-tax dollars, so qualified withdrawals in retirement are completely tax-free. The calculator estimates Traditional IRA after-tax value by multiplying the projected balance by (1 − your marginal tax rate), and treats Roth IRA value as the full balance.
Return rate and tax rate are estimates that you control: a real return of 7% per year is commonly used for a diversified equity portfolio (historical US market average, inflation-adjusted). The actual outcome depends on investment choices, fees, market conditions, and tax law changes — this projection is illustrative. Income limits, deductibility rules, required minimum distributions (RMDs for traditional IRAs starting at age 73), and early withdrawal penalties (before age 59½) are not modelled here.

In 2025 the annual IRA contribution limit is $7,000 ($8,000 if you are 50 or older). This is the combined limit across all your IRAs. Roth IRA eligibility phases out above certain income levels ($150,000–$165,000 for single filers, $236,000–$246,000 for married filing jointly in 2025).
If you expect to be in a higher tax bracket in retirement than now, a Roth is generally better (pay tax now at the lower rate, withdraw tax-free later). If you expect a lower bracket in retirement, Traditional is often better (defer tax to when you pay less). A common strategy is to fund both.
Early withdrawals are typically subject to a 10% penalty plus ordinary income tax (Traditional) or tax and penalty on earnings only (Roth). There are exceptions for first-home purchase, disability, substantially equal periodic payments, and some other cases. This calculator does not model early withdrawal scenarios.
