How this is calculated
每個單位都透過位元組這個共同基準進行換算。輸入值先乘以其「換算至基準」係數以取得位元組數量，再除以目標單位的係數以產生結果，因此任何兩個單位都能在不需要各別換算表的情況下互相關聯。
這裡使用兩組係數家族。十進位（SI）單位是 1000 的次方：1 KB = 1000 B、1 MB = 1000 KB（1000^2 B）、1 GB = 1000^3 B、1 TB = 1000^4 B。二進位（IEC）單位是 1024 的次方：1 KiB = 1024 B、1 MiB = 1024^2 B、1 GiB = 1024^3 B。一個位元是位元組的八分之一（0.125 B），反映每位元組有 8 位元。完全支援混用兩個家族，例如 MB 換算到 GiB。
這正是「盒子上標示 1 GB，但作業系統中卻顯示較少」這種混淆的來源：硬碟以十進位的 GB/TB 銷售，而作業系統則常在同樣的「GB」標籤下以二進位的 GiB/TiB 回報。結果是基準的精確有理數倍數，以設定的精度捨入後顯示；換算鏈內部不會發生捨入，只在顯示時才捨入。
