Corrected age = Chronological age − (40 − Gestational age at birth). A baby born at 30 weeks who is 16 weeks old has a corrected age of 6 weeks (16 − 10 = 6). Use corrected age to assess developmental milestones until about age 2–3.

How this is calculated
Full-term gestation is 40 weeks. When a baby is born before that point, they miss weeks of in-utero development. The corrected age (also called adjusted age or GAA) accounts for this by subtracting the prematurity from the chronological age: a baby born at 32 weeks is 8 weeks early; at 20 weeks old their corrected age is 12 weeks, matching the development of a full-term 12-week-old.
Corrected age is used by paediatricians and parents to evaluate motor, language and social milestones for the first 2–3 years of life. After that point most premature children catch up and the correction is typically no longer applied. If a baby was born before 37 weeks (preterm), corrected age is the appropriate benchmark for milestone tracking.
Note: gestational age must be between 22 and 42 weeks. Babies born below 22 weeks are at the edge of viability and development timelines require specialist neonatal guidance beyond the scope of this calculator.

A negative corrected age means the baby is younger than their due date — this happens in the first weeks after birth for very premature babies. In that case use zero and follow neonatal guidance from your hospital.
