这个计算器是如何工作的?

Erg power (W) = 2.80 × (500 ÷ split_seconds)³ — the Concept2 cubic relationship between pace and power. Calories/hr = watts × 4 + 300 (Concept2 standard estimate). A 2:00/500 m split produces ~203 W and ~1,112 kcal/hr. Enter your split and duration to see total calories and projected 2000 m time.

公式
Power (W) = 2.80 × (500 / split_seconds)³ | Cal/hr = Power × 4 + 300 | Distance = 500 × duration_seconds / split_seconds
How this is calculated

A rowing ergometer (erg) measures work done against a flywheel, mimicking the resistance of water. The relationship between pace and power mirrors open-water rowing: since drag force scales with velocity squared and power = force × velocity, power scales with the cube of speed. The Concept2 constant 2.80 is derived from the drag characteristics of competitive rowing shells, making the erg's power output directly comparable to on-water performance. At a 2:00/500 m split (speed = 500/120 ≈ 4.17 m/s), power = 2.80 × 4.17³ ≈ 203 W.

Calories burned use the Concept2 formula: Cal/hr = (watts × 4) + 300. The 300 kcal/hr accounts for an approximate basal metabolic rate during exercise; the 4 kcal per watt-hour represents mechanical-to-metabolic conversion at roughly 25% efficiency. This estimate assumes an average-sized adult — lighter rowers burn slightly fewer calories and heavier rowers slightly more, but the erg monitor does not adjust for body mass.

Distance and 2000 m time are simple linear projections at the entered pace — they assume you maintain that split exactly. In practice, pacing strategy, fatigue and rating changes will produce a different total. The calculator is most accurate for steady-state efforts.

常见问题

Averages vary greatly by age, sex and training background. For competitive male club rowers, sub-7:00 (splits below 1:45/500 m) is strong; elite lightweight men target under 6:00 (sub-1:30/500 m). Recreational rowers of any level should focus on improving their own personal best rather than absolute benchmarks.

Rowing splits come from the sport's tradition of racing over 2000 m (often broken into 500 m segments). A split tells you how long each 500 m section takes, which is intuitive for pacing a race — slow down by 2 seconds and you know exactly what that means for your 2 km time.

The formula gives a reasonable estimate within about 10–15% for most adults. It does not account for body mass, fitness level, or stroke rate. For precise training load management, use a heart-rate monitor alongside erg data.
