How this is calculated

The arcsine function is the inverse of the sine function. Given a value x in the interval [−1, 1], arcsin(x) returns the unique angle θ in [−π/2, π/2] (i.e. [−90°, 90°]) such that sin(θ) = x. This restricted range is the principal value branch, chosen to make the inverse single-valued — sine itself repeats every 360°, so without restricting the range there would be infinitely many answers.

To convert between radians and degrees, multiply radians by 180/π. The complementary angle arccos(x) satisfies arcsin(x) + arccos(x) = 90° (π/2 radians) for every x in [−1, 1], because in a right triangle the two non-right angles sum to 90°.

The calculator uses the built-in Math.asin() function, which implements the IEEE 754 inverse-sine. Inputs outside [−1, 1] have no real solution and return an error.

The principal value of arcsin is restricted to [−90°, 90°] (or [−π/2, π/2] in radians). This is the smallest interval over which the inverse is unique.

Multiply the radian result by 180/π ≈ 57.2958. For example, arcsin(0.5) = π/6 rad ≈ 0.5236 rad × 57.2958 = 30°.

arcsin(x) gives the angle with that sine value (range −90° to 90°), while arccos(x) gives the angle with that cosine value (range 0° to 180°). They are complementary: arcsin(x) + arccos(x) = 90° for all x in [−1, 1].
