Fat grams per day = (total daily calories × fat percentage) ÷ 9, because fat provides 9 kcal per gram. On a 2,000 kcal diet with 30% from fat, that is 600 kcal ÷ 9 ≈ 67 g/day. Guidelines suggest 20–35% of calories from fat for most adults, with saturated fat below 10% of calories.

How this is calculated
Dietary fat provides 9 kilocalories per gram — more than twice the 4 kcal/g of protein and carbohydrates. To find how many grams of fat hit a given calorie target at a chosen percentage, multiply total daily calories by the fat fraction and divide by 9. The same logic applies to protein (÷ 4) and to carbohydrates, which receive whatever percentage is left over after fat and protein are set.
Dietary guidelines from organisations such as the WHO and the US Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that adults obtain 20–35% of calories from fat, with saturated fat kept below 10% of total energy. These are population-level recommendations for chronic disease prevention; individual needs vary with health goals, activity level, and medical conditions. Athletes in endurance sports often stay in the middle of the range; ketogenic approaches use 60–75% fat; very low-fat therapeutic diets may drop below 15%.
The calculator shows the maximum saturated fat figure as a reference: at 10% of total calories and 9 kcal/g, this is (calories × 0.10) ÷ 9 grams. Saturated fat comes mainly from animal products and some tropical oils; health authorities broadly recommend replacing it with unsaturated fats where possible. This tool gives a starting point — adjust based on food preferences, satiety, and any guidance from a dietitian.

It depends on your total calories and fat-percentage target. On a 2,000 kcal diet, 30% fat equals 600 kcal ÷ 9 = about 67 grams per day. The generally recommended range is 20–35% of total calories from fat for adults.
Fat molecules (triglycerides) are more chemically reduced than carbohydrates — they contain a higher proportion of carbon-hydrogen bonds, which release more energy when oxidised to CO₂ and water. This is why fat is the body's densest energy store.
Total fat includes all fatty acids — saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated. Saturated fat (the kind solid at room temperature, found in butter, cheese, and meat) is a subset associated with raised LDL cholesterol when consumed in excess. Health guidelines cap saturated fat separately at ≤10% of calories.
