How this is calculated
A Minute of Angle (MOA) is 1/60 of one degree, equal to π/10800 radians (≈ 0.000291 rad). For small angles, the physical size on target is simply distance × MOA in radians. At 100 yards that gives 100 × 0.000291 × 36 in/yd = 1.047 inches; at 200 yards it doubles to 2.094 inches; at 100 m it is 2.909 cm. Because the relationship is perfectly linear, any distance can be plugged in directly.
Scope turrets move point of impact in fractions of MOA. The most common standard is ¼ MOA per click, meaning four clicks shift the POI by one full MOA at any range. To find the correction: measure the miss in inches or cm, divide by the MOA span at that distance to get the MOA adjustment, then divide by the click value to get the number of clicks to dial.
MOA is purely angular, so the same dial adjustment always produces the same angular change — but the linear displacement on target scales with distance. If you zero at 100 yards and shoot at 300 yards, the same angular error appears three times larger in inches. This calculator uses the standard 2π/21600 radian definition; some shooters use the 1-inch-at-100-yards approximation (SMOA), which differs by 0.47%.

1 MOA at 100 yards equals 1.047 inches (often rounded to 1 inch in the field). It scales linearly: at 200 yards 1 MOA = 2.094 in; at 1000 yards ≈ 10.47 in. In metric, 1 MOA = 2.909 cm at 100 m.
Both are angular units. 1 MRAD (milliradian) = 10 cm at 100 m (exactly 0.1 m/100 m), while 1 MOA ≈ 2.909 cm at 100 m. MRAD scopes commonly use 0.1 MRAD clicks; MOA scopes use ¼ MOA clicks. Metric shooters often prefer MRAD for simpler arithmetic; MOA is traditional in the US.
With a ¼ MOA scope: 1 inch at 100 yards ≈ 0.955 MOA, so approximately 4 clicks (one full MOA). With ⅛ MOA clicks you would need about 8 clicks. At 200 yards, moving the POI 1 inch requires half as many clicks since 1 MOA spans 2 inches.
